A gothic mad-science short one-off. Enjoy.
Footnote: This comic is noticeably different from my other ones. That's because I colored the characters in digitally, but the backgrounds are all still watercolor. This speeds up the process, improves quality, overall works well.
A sci-fi futuristic endeavor, set on a desolate planet on a faraway world. Enjoy.
Author's Footnote: This entire comic is inspired by retro space, and more specifically, old Lego sets. Inspiration really can come from anywhere, including an old movie called "Sons of the Desert" that showed up when I looked up vintage title cards.
Footnote: I'll admit it: the background for this scene sucks. Interior backgrounds are a lot of work and I'm usually lazy. Also, the first two panels with Noah in them have sleeve marks that I accidentally included.
Designing the cave was very fun. I visited a cave in Tennessee, but it didn't really look like this. This was solely imagination. I've always been fascinated by caves, especially fantasy ones, so this does the trick.
A short adventure of two gladiators in an arena. Enjoy.
Right here lies the forbidden Third Page. Lost to time, or more accurately, accidently saved to a "secure folder" on my tablet- whatever that is- and Page Three is stuck there. Just imagine our two heroes floundering through the catacombs and breaking open a door that says "Do Not Enter". Carry on.
I think I like some of the artistic choices in this comic more than the wannabe "retro-futuristic" of the previous one. Even though all of the digital stuff is worse, even the paper is cooler- real watercolor paper instead of Bristol board- that textures it quite nicely.
My first computer edited comic. The font is pretty generic. The speech bubbles are too big, or sometimes small. Eh, I like it.
A long name for a short comic. Hand lettered and my first watercolor piece. I like the amount of detail and action on just a single page. I should get back to that. Enjoy.
This is what started it all. John Man began what defines my comic journey. As a second grader, I decided to spend my free time making comics. Lots of them. Below is the cover of my compilation novel (books 1-10) and to the right of that is the cover to my first issue. I made 8 compilation novels. I made 80 entire issues of John Man. That is how I spent my entire second grade.
Below is the first issue of Rise of John Man. This is the dedication that I provide. Enjoy.
Page 1- we meet John, and it turns out it's time for thanksgiving. In fact, someone names Jeymi is going to Thanksgiving too. Neither one is happy about it.
Page 2- John and Jeymi, while simultaneously eating brussels sprouts (which they both hate), each eat a gem (thankfully labeled) and they each get electrocuted. At the same time.
Page 3- John, burnt to a crisp, continues to eat his dinner. He accidentally uses telekinesis to lift his fork, and launches brussels sprouts at his mom. With the use of visual storytelling, this brilliant author conveys that Jeymi figures out her powers too.
Page 4- John chants "Food fight!" , throws food for two panels, yells, "Stop!", ducks behind a tablecloth, and reveals his new identity- John Man. Truly the birth of a hero.
Page 5- John Man leaves in a bolt of lightning, and someone raises a toast. Meanwhile, Jeymi says her powers are for evil, but John Man overhears.
Page 6- Something unintelligible happens. John Man flies across the world and goes to China.
Page 7- John man follows signs with arrows to China. He gets to China.
Page 8- At China, John Man meets his sidekick Rylee Girl, and they go back to the ol' U.S. of A.
Page 9- Rylee crashes, and John Man introduces her to his enemy, Jeymi. Jeymi releases a multitude of explosions.
Page 10- Both are unfazed by the explosions (turns out there were 45). John Man still has a whole pile of bombs (note that they look like missiles, but are called bombs), but Jeymi only has one.
Page 11- Jeymi throws her bomb and misses. John Man surrounds her with bomb launchers.
Page 12- <<<<BOOM!!!>>>>
Page 13- With an explosion that could take up a whole page, Jeymi's hair is frizzled. John Man launches one, final, massive bomb. Jeymi is confused, and John Man jumps at her.
Page 14- John Man puts Jeymi in jail. he gets the police, and the heroic adventure ends.
I will now provide the names of the next nine books and a short plot summary of each.
The Release of Jeymi's Monster- John man responds to a monster attack, accidently teleports it to China, and beats the cow out of it.
Attack of the Science Quiz- After dropping mutant gel on a science quiz, it comes to life. John Man tries to crumple it, but when that doesn't work, summons rain clouds to melt it, a la Wicked Witch of the West.
A New Villain- A crime causes John to bring out The Stealthinator, which lets him catch Kai Kid. Kai Kid turns out to be Jeymi's new sidekick, but John Man melts her with water, which is her weakness. I sense a reoccurring theme.
Snakes- John Man gets a sidekick with Snake powers, Basilisk Boy. Basilisk boy summons snakes to eat Jeymi and "Vegtable Lady".
Flytrap- Jeymi releases a mutant Flytrap and John Man uses a machine to make it grow so fast it dies.
Hey Jeymi, I Just Made 4 Heroes to Use Against You- John Man creates four heroes to beat Jeymi up, with the powers of plants, speed, and strength.
Mutants- Jeymi releases mutants and John Man kills them.
Killer Doom's Banana Army- An escaped mutant named Killer Doom uses his toxic spit to start a banana army, which John Man defeats and then sells the remains of.
Night of the Living Sidekicks- a grand finale to the first novel. Jeymi turns John Mans sidekicks into zombies, and John Man breaks into her lab to find the antidote.
You probably skimmed over the whole last section and didn't even notice that I changed the bullet point type for the fourth book. Then, you probably looked back at the bullet point for book four. Thanks for reading. Hope you enjoyed.
